Transcript of the SimPARTIX- Abrasive Machining Simulation Tool at the Fraunhofer IWM video:
Scientists at the Fraunhofer IWM in Freiburg, Germany have created SimPARTIX, computer simulation software which provides insights that allow manufacturers to achieve results not possible with conventional machining processes. SimPARTIX addresses the challenge of using abrasive particles to optimize component surfaces in extremely hard to reach – and sometimes tiny – places.
The starting point for the Fraunhofer IWM experts is to define the characteristics of the particles to be used in the abrasive machining process, including the material as well as shape and size. A virtual model of the set of particles is produced and integrated into the SimPARTIX simulation.
Various models of the particles are created and form a system which becomes an abrasive machining tool. Consisting of many fast moving particles of different shapes, densities & sizes, SimPARTIX simulations individually model how each of these particles interact with and effect each other, the fluid they are in and the component surface the abrasive machining tool is intended to finish.
By utilizing the detailed virtual replica created by SimPARTIX, an in-depth understanding is gained of how this tool will perform in action. Close cooperation and experimentation between Fraunhofer IWM scientists and clients helps to improve performance in the various fields of application when the abrasive machining process is used for grinding, sawing, deburring, cutting and removing unwanted material as well as cleaning, polishing and otherwise finishing complex component surfaces which were in the past difficult if not impossible to reach.
Complexly shaped component surfaces composed of a variety of different materials can be finely finished as per specifications for virtually any industrial application. Abrasive grains can be utilized within fluid, or dry, depending on the specific situation.
SimPARTIX simulations provide deep insights and allow for less trial and error, meaning that the abrasive machining process can be precisely adjusted so as to cost-effectively achieve the intended outcome.
SimPARTIX is an innovative and powerful computer simulation tool developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM.
Based on physical models, SimPARTIX is used to investigate various materials in manufacturing processes and service, typically generating large amounts of data on the dynamical material behavior. By means of detailed analyses and visualizations of the data we provide in-depth insights into the fundamental dynamics of processes. SimPARTIX enables Fraunhofer IWM clients to employ specific optimization measures and helps them gain a full understanding of their applications.
The Fraunhofer IWM carries out research and development projects for industry and public bodies who seek to develop sustainable and efficient solutions. We enable clients to make optimal use of material properties and to realize new component functions and innovative manufacturing techniques.
If today’s propagandists actually read Alexander Hamilton, they’d hate him. Indeed, they’d be TERRIFIED of him as a FASCIST AND HORRIBLE RACIST. This testifies, of course, to his merits.
