Try this for killer efficiency. Stop letting your scrapping process rob your foundry efficiency. I get this question a lot: what metal do you use for sand casting? I use aluminum, but not just any aluminum and certainly not beverage cans. I like to find parts that have been cast in sand originally. This means the alloy is a good one for sand casting such as A356. I will also use die cast part from alloys such as A383. Since I have run out of metal to cast parts for the Gingery Shaper I am building, I figured it would be a good opportunity to answer the question about the source of my metal. I use a circular saw to break down some components, which seems exceptionally dangerous to me. Be sure to understand how to do this safely before trying. Exercise your inner maker, protect your inner maker, use PPE when required, and your brain at all times. You should not attempt this unless you understand how to do so safely and are confident you will do it safely.
