Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting King Philippe of Belgium in Beijing on Wednesday.
Praising the strength of China-Belgium ties, Li said China will work with the European country to increase mutual trust and deepen cooperation in key areas, including trade and investment.
He proposed to combine China’s comparative advantages in industry and manufacturing with Belgium’s advanced technology to explore third-party markets.
With the 17th China-EU Summit approaching, Li reinforced the importance of China’s strong relations with the EU. The Chinese Premier, who will attend the meeting in Brussels later this month, said China hopes to inject a new impetus into already strong China-EU relations.
China is pleased to see a prosperous Europe, a united European Union and a strong euro, he said.
However, with the Greek debt issue at a critical stage, Li said China appreciates the efforts of all parties concerned, and hopes for a positive outcome with Greece remaining in the Eurozone.
King Philippe said Belgium values its friendly relations with China and will increase its cooperation in trade, investment, and technology sectors across small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as through cultural exchanges.
Belgium will engage with China on major initiatives such as the Silk Road Economic Belt, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and international industrial cooperation, he vowed.
The King said Belgium appreciates China’s commitment to supporting European integration and the Eurozone, adding that Belgium is equally committed to strengthening EU-China relations.
King Philippe arrived in China on June 20 night for a week-long state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. It is his first state visit overseas since his crowning in July 2013.
