Having had access to some 1934 archive farming film back in the 1980′s, it gave us the idea to tell a little of the story about the heyday and the sad decline of the heavy horse up until the present time (as it was back in 1980) of shires & working horses. What a surprise it was when we discovered that the national Coal Board had working horse stables in Lichfield.
The film did win a ’10 Best Award’, which was a prestigious film competition at the time, and was shown at the National Film Theatre in London.
We hope that you enjoy the film – perhaps someone may have memories to share of working with these animals.
Filmed on 16mm film. Commentary – John Coles
